Insights into the course

The Reykjavík Academy of Web Development offers the only programme in Iceland which combines teaching web development, interface design and programming of websites. The programme offers a personalised approach, with small student groups, great access to teachers and an environment dedicated to fostering cooperation and unity between students. 

The programme places great emphasis on connections to the industry and professionals in the web sector.

General description

Admission requirements

Applicants must have completed their matriculation examination or comparable education (upper secondary school). Additional requirements are basic computer skills and good English.  

Having a background in graphic design or programming is an advantage. 

After graduation

After graduating from Reykjavík Academy of Web Development students should have the skills and qualifications needed to enter the job market. There are many job opportunities for interface designers and web developers, e.g., with IT companies and in web departments of larger companies that emphasize web solutions. In addition, many work independently as freelancers and in innovation.

  • Web development is a project centred programme (see next tab for details). 
  • The programme is structured as three semesters (90 fein) with the possibility of completing it in one year. Full time students take the fall and spring semesters plus the summer semester where they work on their final project in collaboration with a company connected to their studies, under the supervision of a teacher. 
  • Tuition fees are payed for the fall and spring semesters, 250.000 ISK per semester, with the summer semester included (no tuition payed for the summer semester). 
  • Attendance is mandatory in some sessions/classes/presentations but otherwise students are free to choose where they do their work. 

What does project centred programme mean?

  • The programme is structured around a set number of projects that students must complete. 
  • The projects determine students’ progress. Students can set their own pace through the programme with the projects. 
  • All projects must be completed. 
  • For fulltime students doing 30 fein per semester the programme is 3 semesters or 1 year. However, students can choose to organise their studies over a longer period.

How long is the programme?

What does it cost?

The total cost is 500 thousand ISK. Students pay for the fall and spring semesters with the summer semester included.
